After clashes in Al-Zawiya, normal movement resumes in the city

Libya Al-Ahrar correspondent reported the return of normal movement on the coastal road to Al-Zawiya amid a state of uneasy calm following the clashes that the city witnessed in the early hours of Sunday.

Al-Ahrar correspondent said that reconciliation efforts were still ongoing between the city’s notables and residents to completely stop the clashes that took place around Al-Zawiya oil refinery.

The official spokesman for the National Oil Corporation, Khaled Ghulam, confirmed that the fire which broke out in a number of tanks in Al-Zawiya refinery as a result of being hit by gunfire had been controlled. He said that the refinery’s work teams were continuing the process of securing the surroundings of the damaged tanks and transferring the remaining oil to other tanks, in addition to taking all necessary measures after the National Oil Corporation declared a state of force majeure and a third-degree emergency.

Ghulam reassured citizens in the vicinity of Al-Zawiya, Tripoli and its suburbs that fuel was available in the Brega tanks in sufficient quantities, stressing that the process of supplying the stations is proceeding routinely without any change in the distribution plan or supply quantities. He also confirmed the continuation of fuel supplies by sea, noting that the fleet of supply ships supplied from abroad has not stopped.

Meanwhile, Brega Oil Marketing Company announced the continuation of normal work in Al-Zawiya refinery after ensuring safety procedures. The company confirmed in a brief statement that the refinery had started supplying distribution companies for their fuel stations.
