A member of the House of Representatives (HoR), Issa Al-Araibi, has announced that there will be a meeting between Aqila Saleh, the Speaker of the HoR, and Mohamed Takala, the President of the High Council of State (HCS). The specifics of the meeting, including its time, location, and agenda, have yet to be disclosed.
Al-Araibi added that the National High Electoral Commission (HNEC) has referred certain remarks to the 6+6 Committee. These remarks are currently awaiting further referral from the Committee to the HoR for approval.
In light of these developments, Al-Araibi explained that the process of appointing a unified executive authority to oversee the elections will commence once these remarks have been received and ratified. This process will be carried out in parallel with ongoing communications with the HCS.
Previously, Saleh had reached out to Takala following his election as President of the HCS in August. He urged for continued dialogue with the HoR in order to reach a consensus that would lead to elections.
In a recent phone call between the two leaders, both expressed their readiness for communication and mutual collaboration aimed at guiding the country out of its current crisis. Saleh also indicated that the HCS will review remarks received from the HoR pertaining to electoral laws. He noted that these observations are generally acceptable and unlikely to be a point of contention.
