Designated committee follows up Tunisian border situation

The specially designated committee formed by a Prime Ministerial decree to coordinate efforts across the border strip between Libya and Tunisia has initiated its activities to secure the national borders in the northwest.

The press office of the Government of National Unity has announced that the committee has established a joint security operations room representing state agencies and authorities concerned with border security and countering irregular migration, in order to mitigate the mass flow of migrants into Libyan territories.

The committee discussed in its second meeting which was announced on Tuesday the required and urgent needs of the relevant agencies in order for them to carry out their tasks.

The committee also discussed the means to facilitate humanitarian provided support to migrant families by the Libyan Red Crescent and international organizations focusing on humanitarian aid.

The Libyan Ministry of Interior had previously accused Tunisian authorities of driving African migrants and expatriates by force toward the border with Libya.
