Egypt reiterates call for removing foreign mercenaries, forces from Libya

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, has renewed his country’s belief that the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya is very important.

Shoukry said in a meeting with the Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, who arrived Saturday in Cairo, that full support should be given to the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC ) to play its role in the stabilization and withdrawal of mercenaries’ process.

He also said Egypt supports Libyan authorities’ efforts to implement the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum’s roadmap, and holding general elections on time, which he said was very significant for stability.

In the meantime, the spokeswoman for the Presidential Council, Najwa Wheba, said the visit to Cairo would go for two days and Al-Lafi would discuss bilateral relations as well as the latest Libyan developments. She also said that Al-Lafi is scheduled to meet the Libyan community in Egypt to review national reconciliation and their role in it.
