A source from the Government of National Unity told Libya Al-Ahrar that the government had informed Egyptian intelligence officials working at the embassy in Tripoli to leave Libyan territory immediately.
This step came hours after Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly received the Prime Minister of the government designated by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, accompanied by the Director of the “Development and Reconstruction Fund of Libya” Belgassim Haftar, to discuss the role of Egyptian companies in the reconstruction of Libya.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity expressed in a statement earlier on Sunday its strong dissatisfaction and categorical rejection of this step, describing it as “a disconnection from the unity of the international position that rejects the return of the country to a state of division and conflict.”
The Government of National Unity stressed in its statement that since the beginning of its work, it had strived to overcome the state of international polarization and to deal with all countries related to the Libyan file with balance, especially with Egypt.
