United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has officially accepted the resignation of the Special Envoy to Libya, Abdullah Bathily, which he announced on Tuesday.
While accepting the resignation, Guterres said that the United Nations will continue to support the political process led by Libyans.
On Tuesday, Bathily announced his resignation, indicating in press statements at the United Nations headquarters that it currently seems difficult to reach a political solution in the future.
Bathily warned that Libya had become a ground for conflict and that it was on its way to losing its sovereignty.
He stressed that the United Nations is trying to prevent this, but “external players are undermining the United Nations’ efforts.”
