Libya’s GNA forces continue to seize positions from Haftar’s forces in southern Tripoli

New developments on different frontlines in southern Tripoli have taken place over the last hours as the forces under the command of the Government of National Accord (GNA) repelled Khalifa Haftar’s forces attempts to advance on Tripoli Airport Road and captured six of their fighters.

GNA Advances on Al-Ramla Frontline

The media office of Burkan Al-Ghadab Operation under GNA’s command said Saturday that they had launched an attack on positions for Haftar’s forces, who are supported by foreign mercenaries, on Al-Ramla frontline.

Burkan Al-Ghadab Operation added that they had seized control of several buildings used as hideouts by Haftar’s forces, and destroyed two tanks as well as one military vehicle on Al-Ramla frontline.

Capturing Fighters, Destroying Vehicles

The spokesman for the Libyan Army, colonel Mohammed Gununu, confirmed that GNA forces had destroyed eight military vehicles, including two Nimr ones from the United Arab of Emirates (UAE), adding that they also destroyed a tank for Haftar’s forces on Al-Khallatat and Airport Road frontlines in southern Tripoli.

Gununu added that GNA forces had captured six of Haftar’s fighters and recovered as many as nine bodies, confirming that GNA forces repelled attacks and attempts to advance by Haftar’s forces into the administrative borders of Al-Zawiya city.

Airstrikes on Al-Zawiya

Libya Alahrar TV correspondent confirmed Saturday that Haftar’s warplanes had carried out two airstrikes on the Applied Engineering Institute in Bughalasha area in Al-Zawiya city, adding that they didn’t cause any casualties.

The correspondent indicated that the airstrikes, however; caused huge damage to the institute building and its facilities.

All On Alert

On the ground, the spokesman for the Brigade 166 Khalid Abu Jaziya said they had targeted Haftar’s forces on different frontlines and destroyed a UAE armored vehicle in the vicinity of Hamza Camp.

Likewise, the field commander on Al-Zatarna frontline, Anas Aqoub, told Libya Alahrar TV that GNA forces had repelled advance endeavors of Haftar’s forces on the same frontline, forcing them to retreat.

Aqoub said that their forces also destroyed one of Haftar’s forces military vehicles and managed to stay in position as they are on alert for any attacks.

Controlling the Airport Road

Meanwhile, a military official told Libya Al-Ahrar that Burkan Al-Ghadab Operation forces under the command of GNA had seized full control of the Airport Road in southern Tripoli after thwarting an infiltration and advance attempt by Khalifa Haftar’s forces.
