Russia, Egypt agree on rejecting foreign intervention in Libya

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati said that he had agreed with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to reject any dictates, pressures or external intervention in Libya.

The two foreign ministers also agreed to support the Libyan people in determining their own destiny.

‎In a joint press conference with Lavrov in Moscow on Monday, Abdel Aati stressed the need to expedite the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously, with the aim of forming a new leadership that would end the ongoing crisis and ensure the unity of Libyan territory.

Meanwhile, Lavrov reaffirmed his country’s commitment to achieving a comprehensive settlement to the Libyan crisis, stressing the need to quickly appoint a new UN envoy.

‎The Egyptian Foreign Minister headed to Moscow Sunday on an official visit within the framework of strengthening Egyptian-Russian relations.
