The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has strongly condemned “what appears to be a targeted mortar attack in Sebha in Minshiya district during the celebration of the tenth anniversary of February 17 revolution on Wednesday”.
UNSMIL condemned the attack that killed a child and injured 29 others, including two children.
“The Mission calls on authorities to ensure an independent, impartial and prompt investigation into this heinous attack on civilians and calls for perpetrators to be brought to justice.” UNSMIL said in a statement.
A ten-year-old child was killed and 20 people were injured as a mortar rocket fell and exploded among Sabha residents who were celebrating the tenth anniversary of the February 17 revolution in Minshiya neighborhood.
The spokesman for the Sabha municipality told Libya Alahrar TV on Wednesday that three injured people were sent to Tripoli as the Sabha Medical Center was suffering from shortage of the number of working medics and paramedics.
The spokesman added that three other people underwent medical surgeries at the Sabha Medical Center, while some cases were lodged at the intensive care unit and the rest of the injured people left after receiving medical assistance for their minor injuries.
