US embassy in Libya denies issuing statement rejecting HoR recent decisions
The embassy of the United States (US) in Libya denied on Saturday issuing a statement rejecting the recent decisions taken by the House of Representatives (HoR) regarding the legitimacy of the Government of National Unity.
The US embassy said “Forged memo, presented as a statement from the U.S. Embassy to Libya, is a fake document. We reject the fraudulent use of U.S. Embassy to Libya letterhead to disseminate fake information and attempt to mislead the Libyan public.”
It added that the letterhead of the fake statement appeared to have been taken from a U.S. Embassy to Libya condolence message, calling such an act as “reprehensible.”
“The U.S. position on the Libyan political process has not changed. The United States continues to fully support UN facilitation of an inclusive political process, based on dialogue and compromise among all Libyan parties and based on the principles of the Libyan Political Agreement and the Geneva process.” The US embassy added.
