Iraq reopens its embassy in Libya

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the opening of the Iraqi embassy in Libya and indicated that Ahmed Al-Sahhaf was named charge d’affaires of the embassy.

Al-Sahhaf confirmed in a statement published by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry that he would work to develop bilateral relations and coordinate the exchange of high-level visits between Baghdad and Tripoli in the coming period.

Al-Sahhaf pointed out Iraq’s support for international efforts to restore security and stability in Libya, and to adopt the political solutions that meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The Iraqu diplomat also mentioned that the reopening of the Iraqi embassy in Libya restores its role in activating diplomacy in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly nations, in addition to providing services and consular work to the Iraqi community residing in Libya.

The Iraqi embassy is reopening after being closed for almost a decade.
