A US-based lawyer for the victims of warlord Khalifa Haftar’s crimes in Libya said his team notified on Wednesday Haftar that they plan to take his deposition within 45 days in their civil lawsuit for his victims.
Mark Zaid added on his Twitter account that a US Court had informed Haftar that he would have time until July 20, 2021, to answer the lawsuit or he would be in default.
The lawyer also remarked that Haftar’s defense in the US is headed by a Trump lawyer, Jesse Binnall, adding that being held in default at court could lead to a default judgment: a verdict for the victims that includes confiscating Haftar’s properties in the US to pay compensation for the victims.
