Al-Mishri: High Council of State rejects HoR’s unilateral, flawed elections law

The Head of the Libyan High Council of State (HCS), Khalid Al-Mishri, has reiterated that the House of Representatives (HoR) isn’t entitled by the law to enact legislations without consultation with the HCS first.

Al-Mishri said in a session for the HCs in Tripoli that the HoR’s approved elections law is totally rejected as it is not passed by consensus as per the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and the Libyan Political Agreement.

The Head of the HCS also added that he found it strange that some politicians had participated in devising the elections law and justified its approval unilaterally by the HoR Speaker Aqila Saleh.

It’s worth mentioning that the HoR passed an elections law this week to elect the Libyan president directly by the people, but the law wasn’t enacted after consultation with the HCS. Moreover, the law has been rendered as flawed by many politicians because it allows military figures and crimes-indicted persons to run for president without any transitional justice.

Other politicians, like Abdelrazzak Al-Erdai, who is a member of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, rejected the law and said it was sized up to fit the presidential bid of war criminal Khalifa Haftar.
