Al-Mishri, Saleh meet in Cairo to resolve constitutional basis entanglements

The Head of the high council of State (HCS), Khalid Al-Mishri, met on Friday with the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqila Saleh, in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss the entanglements of the constitutional track for holding elections in Libya.

According to “Cairo News website”, Al-Mishri and Saleh agreed on holding the first round of presidential elections with the elections of a new body called “the senate”, in addition to holding the second round of presidential elections with those of the House of Representatives.

Al-Mishri said the HCS and the HoR intentionally ignored publishing the constitutional document they had agreed on to the public so that they could have more deliberations, adding that all Libya stakeholders, including Egypt, understood that political polarization wouldn’t help resolve the crisis in Libya.

Regarding the constitutional basis for elections, Al-Mishri said there would be another meeting with the HoR Speaker in the presence of the UN envoy to Libya, Aboulaye Bathily, to publish the final draft of the constitutional basis, reiterating that they had delayed tackling the issue of the executive authority’s replacement.
