The Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, has agreed with the Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, to continue to provide all necessary support to maintain the readiness of the HNEC for elections and to keep up communication between the HNEC and the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) as well as the exchange of technical information related to the implementation of future electoral processes.
Al-Sayeh and Williams met at the headquarters of the HNEC in Tripoli and discussed the technical and advisory support for the HNEC provided by UNSMIL and the United Nations Development Program in Libya.
The meeting reviewed the current situation regarding the consensus of the political parties to conduct an electoral process in the short term, and the extent of the preparedness of the HNEC as well as its ability to respond to those consensus efforts in the coming period.
