The Head of vaccination administration at the Libyan National Center for Disease Control, Abdelbasit Samiyo, said the epidemiological situation in Libya’s west and south is very serious and concerning, adding that officials in eastern Libya must get ready by preparing quarantine centers and keeping a good stock of oxygen as well as medical equipment in case of increased spread.
Samiyo said on Libya Alahrar TV Channel on Saturday that 300 samples a day in Zliten means that infections could reach 3000 in the city and other cities like Misrata, Al-Zawiya and Tripoli.
He added that 500.000 doses of Sputnik Light vaccine will be disrupted once the Food and Drugs Authority okays the vaccine to be used across Libya, saying that the second dose of the vaccine will depend on bringing in sufficient quantities, and that giving the first dose is more important and that 100.000 doses of the Sputnik vaccine will soon arrive in Libya.
He also said infections increased in the last period as people didn’t abide by the precautionary measures and that they aim to vaccinate as many people as they can.
