Flood survivors are vulnerable to diseases

Survivors of the flood disaster in Libya are at risk of contracting diseases due to water pollution and lack of sanitation services, the International Medical Corps said.

The Corps confirmed in a post on social media that its water and sanitation team is working to repair sanitation facilities and provide access to clean water. In its latest report at the beginning of December, the Corps noted that the effects of Storm Daniel are still influencing the eastern region, as access to livelihoods is a major concern.

Moreover, the city of Derna in particular is still living under the impact of tragedy, as the director of media and communication for the Red Crescent in the city, Salem Al-Naas, revealed that the division of the city into two parts hinders traffic movement and the continuation of the educational process in the city.

For his part, a member of the city’s Crisis Committee, Hamad Al-Shalawi, called on the two governments to establish a unified body to address the city’s problems, considering that Derna is suffering as a result of the political division in the country.
