Libyan families’ lawyers in the US urge for resuming Haftar’s trail for war crimes

The Head of the Libyan-American Alliance, Essam Omeish, said that the lawyer for the victims of the Libyan families for Ali Hamza’s family members, who were killed by Haftar militias in the Ganfouda massacre in 2017, Mark Zayd, and his team had requested once again a return to prosecution procedures against Haftar in the US.

Omeish added that the lawyer called on the US District Judge Leonie Brinkema to expedite the return of the court hearings in the case against Haftar, stressing that it is a fair demand to resume the trial of the perpetrator of the horrific crimes against the oppressed children and families of Libya who did not get the right to defend themselves in the Libyan courts.

He reiterated that this request is based on the reality of the failure to hold elections on their previous date and the absence of any specific and real date to hold elections, which were the reason why Judge Brinkema froze the court’s proceedings, saying at the time that the lawsuit would be suspended for overlapping with the political track amid preparation for December 24 elections of last year, which didn’t go as planned.

Omeish confirmed that there are similar requests to pressure the judge from all parties to resume the trail against the American citizen Haftar for having committed war crimes, crimes against humanity and human rights violations in Libya over the last years.
