Menfi meets French delegation and agrees on importance of reaching fair elections

The President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to end the transitional period by holding transparent and fair elections, which all Libyans can participate in without exclusion.

This came during his meeting with the French President’s special envoy to Libya, Paul Soler, and the French ambassador to Libya, Mustafa Maharaj. The head of the Presidential  Council touched on the importance of unifying all institutions to facilitate holding elections and ensure acceptance of their results, as he aims to build a consensus that includes all relevant institutions and  political actors, in coordination with the UN envoy, Abdullah Bathily.

During the meeting, Menfi assured the Council’s support for the outputs of the 6 + 6 committee as a basis for holding elections, stressing the importance of expanding participation and dialogue to overcome disputed points.

The French diplomat praised the progress made concerning the work of the supreme finance committee and unifying the military institution and national reconciliation, led by the Presidential Council.

Soler emphasized on the importance of relations between Libya and France, pointing to his country’s keenness to achieve stability in Libya, and its support for the vision of the Presidential Council and the steps taken for holding elections.

During the meeting, Special Envoy Soler handed over President Macron’s invitation to the International Peace Conference to be held in Paris next November.
