The President of the Presidential Council Mohamed Menfi has stressed the need for the reconstruction process of areas affected by floods to be a process led by Libyans.
Menfi, during his meeting with the representative of the World Bank in Libya, Henriette von, called on the bank to provide technical support for the reconstruction plans for the affected areas.
Menfi stressed that technical support should be conducted through studies and statistics and assessing the extent of the damage that occurred following the floods.
The two sides discussed the issue of reconstruction in the city of Derna and the other affected areas, and how to benefit from previous World Bank’s experiences regarding such projects.
Moreover, they stressed the necessity of a comprehensive survey of the damages in the affected areas, in addition to the role assigned to the Council in ensuring the success of the reconstruction plans, as well as the governance and transparency of spending.
