The members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) at Al-Zawiya refinery threatened to shut down the refinery and the Mellitah and Misrata oil complexes, demanding their financial dues from previous salaries and the implementation of the decision to grant them health insurances similar to what employees at the National Oil Corporation (NOC) received.
The members gave in a video statement on Tuesday those responsible for operating the oil facilities five days to respond to their demands, indicating that the closure would affect the fields, complexes, facilities, depots and departments in the oil sector across Libya after agreement with their colleagues in the PFG in other districts.
The protesters indicated that they were not affiliated with any political faction, and refused to transfer the PFG members to other security services unless they were given their full legal and financial rights.
