The deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU) Ramadan Bujanah has confirmed the reopening of Sharara oilfield after 20 days of shutdown by protesters in south Libya.
The Deputy PM told Libya Alahrar TV channel on Sunday that the GNU had answered most of the demands of the Fezzan Gathering members who were behind the closure, adding that the GNU would make sure that the rest of their demands were materialized.
“One of the demands the government approved was moving Akakus Oil Company’s headquarters to Ubari in southern Libya.” Bujanah remarked.
Afterwards, the NAtional Oil Corporation (NOC) announced the reopening of Sharara oilfield and lifting force majeure to resume operations to the normal level before the shutdown.
The Fezzan protesters also announced ending the shutdown in a video statement, saying they had decided to reopen Sharara field after promises to answer their demands were made by the NOC.
Sharara oilfield, one of Libya’s largest production areas with a capacity of about 300,000 barrels per day, has been a frequent target for several political reasons and demands by local protesters.
