The Government of National Unity (GNU) has announced the start of a pilot plan to transfer the salaries of employees of the Ministry of Local Government directly to their bank accounts without waiting for clearing systems. This move is expected to streamline the payment process and ensure that employees receive their salaries in a timely manner.
According to Minister of Local Government Badr al-Din Al-Toumi, the system has already been applied to 18,000 employees in coordination with the Central Bank of Libya and the Ministry of Finance. The government is now working to increase the number of local government employees receiving direct salary transfers to 50,000 by the end of December.
Moreover, Al-Toumi explained that the number of municipal employees has increased from 7,000 employees in March 2021 to 145,000 over the past year and a half as part of the ministry’s plan to transfer competencies to municipalities. This increase in the number of employees is expected to help improve the delivery of services to citizens and promote local development.
Al-Toumi also pointed out that the number of job adjustments that took place after transferring competencies to municipalities reached 76,000 during the last year and a half.
