UN: HNEC responsible for sorting out Libya elections’ candidacy applications

The United Nations (UN) has commented on the candidacy of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, stressing that the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) is the one responsible for sorting out candidates’ registrations for Libya elections.

The Deputy Spokesman of the United Nations Secretary General, Farhan Haq, told reporters that the UN supports Libyan authorities in preparing for presidential and parliamentary elections.

He said the UNSMIL is working on the ground with all parties to achieve consensus for a comprehensive and credible vote, adding that the High National Elections Commission’s work includes accepting candidacy documents and seeing if they are in line with the laws.
