Damaged infrastructure in Derna prolongs the city’s crisis

After moderate rainfall this week, floods occurred in various neighborhoods of the city of Derna, revealing the clear deterioration of the state of the city’s sewage channels after the flood disaster.

Activists from the city have called on the authorities to address this problem, which will prolong the city’s crisis. The activists have reposted their previous posts that spoke about the need to pay attention to this issue and address it from the first days of the disaster.

According to sources from the city, there are streets and neighborhoods in central Derna covered by debris left by the floods, including “Asbaq Street,” which has not witnessed any operations to open lanes and remove debris until now.

Earlier, the Government of National Unity had announced that about 70% of the infrastructure in the city and the surrounding areas was damaged due to the floods.
