El Sonni: We support Bathily’s initiative and condemn the continued Israeli aggression against Gaza

In his speech at the Security Council, Libya’s UN Representative Taher El Sonni expressed support for Bathily’s efforts to bring together the Libyan parties for negotiation and dialogue to reach a consensus that paves the way for elections in Libya.

El Sonni stressed the need to reach a common ground for the success of the dialogue and for all parties to enter into discussions without prior preconditions.

Regarding the immigration issue, El Sonni said that Libya has repeatedly stressed that the migration file cannot be borne by Libya alone, stressing that it is a comprehensive international responsibility that includes the countries of source, transit, and destination.

El Sonni pointed out Libya’s keenness to protect human rights and hold accountable those involved in any violations, no matter how long it takes and despite all the challenges.

Commenting on what is happening in Palestine, El Sonni said that the Libyan people and the nations of the region are fed up with the double standards that were exposed after the ‘brutal Zionist aggression’ against Gaza.

El Sonni added that it is shameful for countries that preach human rights to continue in their approach, especially when comparing the positions of those countries on other international issues.

Libya’s UN representative further stressed that the Libyan government and people will spare no effort to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people and work for an immediate ceasefire, calling for a resolution to bring in aid and open safe corridors.
