Despite its Speaker’s initial statement, the HoR refuses to participate in the dialogue table

The House of Representatives (HoR) referred a resolution to the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Bathily, in which the HoR refuses to participate in any political dialogue involving the Government of National Unity (GNU).

The Speaker of the HoR stated in a letter addressed to the UN envoy that the HoR’s participation in the dialogue is still under discussion.

During its last session, the HoR issued a resolution refusing to participate in Bathily’s initiative, given the presence of the GNU government, although the HoR Speaker Agila Saleh had welcomed the UN initiative in a tripartite statement with Menfi and Haftar issued from Cairo days earlier. Both statements stipulated that the reservations and demands of the conferees should be taken into account, without clearly stating the intended reservations.

On November 23, Bathily announced official invitations to the main parties in Libya (the Presidential Council, the HoR, the High Council of State, the GNU and Haftar) to participate in joint discussions, to reach a political settlement regarding the controversial issues related to the electoral process.
