Washington extends the sanctions imposed on Libya

The United States has renewed the sanctions imposed on Libya, Russia and Iran for one year.

Sanctions were imposed on Libya in March 2011 in response to Gaddafi’s forces’ brutality against civilians.

The sanctions currently include an arms embargo, a freeze on targeted assets, travel bans and measures related to attempts to illegally export oil.

The European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States implement both United Nations and independent sanctions on Libya.
