The ambassador of the United States to Libya, Richard Norland, congratulated over the phone the designated Presidential Council members of the new interim executive authority, voicing support for their task to bring the country together ahead of December elections.
The US embassy said in a statement Friday that Norland telephoned President-designate Mohammad Younes Menfi and members-designate Abdallah Al-Lafi and Mossa Al-Koni.
“These conversations addressed the importance of early formation of an effective Cabinet of Ministers and confirmation of the Government by the House of Representatives or the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum”. The statement said.
Norland urged Menfi and the two members for working towards timely national elections on December 24, noting that the new unified interim executive has signaled important steps towards reconciliation.
“Now is an opportunity for all of Libya’s leaders to come together in favor of a stable, unified Libya.” Norland reiterated.
