Committee formed in Al-Zawiya to resolve security issues after protests

Libya Al-Ahrar TV correspondent reported that the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Haddad, had agreed with the Council of Elders and Dignitaries of Al-Zawiya and the city’s youth movement to impose the law and order of the state in Al-Zawiya.

The correspondent indicated that a committee of 15 people was formed, including seven representatives from the General Staff, three from the Council of Elders and Dignitaries, and five from the youth movement.

He added that Al-Haddad held a meeting with the leaders of the 52nd Infantry Brigade to discuss the file of securing the city, while the Head of Al-Zawiya Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ashraf Duraid, said that he agreed with the 52nd Infantry Brigade to enter the city and fully secure it, reiterating in a statement to Libya Al-Ahrar that the CID will pursue crime dens in the city and the headquarters of illegal immigration as well as drug trafficking gangs.

In the meantime, relatives of the martyrs of Abu Issa area in the city announced their support for the demands of the city’s youth to achieve stability and implement their legitimate demands. They reaffirmed their support for the army and the security authorities in securing the city and fighting crime and illegal immigration, highlighting their disavowal of every person who picks a fight against the army and security forces in the city.

Al-Zawiya city has seen protests in the past few days, in addition to the closure of the main roads and some of the city’s institutions, in protest against the deteriorating security situation in the city.
