Dbeibah: We derive our legitimacy from the Constitutional Declaration

Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, confirmed that his government derives its legitimacy from the political agreement included in the constitutional declaration.

Dbeibah mentioned in his meeting with the acting UN envoy, Stephanie Khoury, that the House of Representatives (HoR) recent decisions do not change the reality at all, and that they were issued by a party seeking to extend its mandate for the longest period possible.

Dbeibah stressed that his government is committed to the outcomes of the political agreement, which stipulated that the government would end its duties by holding elections and ending the transitional phase.

For her part, the acting UN envoy stated that she stressed in her meeting with Dbeibah the need to strengthen efforts to maintain stability.

Khoury also stressed the need to draw a clear, agreed-upon track towards national elections under a unified government.

The HoR recently called for an end to the preliminary phase of the Government of National Unity and the Presidential Council and to consider the Hamad government the legitimate government, in addition to claiming the title of Supreme Commander-in-Chief to the Speaker of the HoR.
