France’s Ambassador meets the head of the HNEC

The French Ambassador to Libya, Mustafa Maharaj, discussed with the Head of the High National Election Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, the preparations to conduct elections.

Maharaj’s visit comes as part of a series of visits to several stakeholders, where he discussed with the Second Deputy of the High Council of State (HCS), Omar Al-Obaidi, the initiative of the UN envoy Abdullah Bathily and the steps taken to end the transitional stages.

The two parties stressed the need to reach a national consensus that would lead to the holding of elections as soon as possible. Maharaj also discussed with Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh the latest political developments in the country, in addition to issues related the electoral laws.

During the meeting, Saleh held on to his position regarding the necessity of forming a new government, before holding elections.
