Italian PM urges Haftar to reduce foreign forces’ presence in Libya

The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has asked Khalifa Haftar to reduce the presence of “foreign troops, and primarily Russian militias, in Libya” when she met him in Benghazi on Tuesday, Italy’s ANSA News Agency said.

Meloni met with Haftar in Benghazi after she had convened meetings with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and Head of Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, in Tripoli.

ANSA said it was important to move the political process forward, preserving the unity of Libyan institutions, and to work to end the presence of foreign forces on Libyan soil.

Italy, ANSA sources point out, is keen on being present across Libya, working with all the different Libyan actors.
