Italy indicates that there are still challenges in coordinating with Libya regarding irregular migration

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani said that there are obstacles with Libya regarding stopping the departure of migrants from its coasts.

This came during a hearing before the Parliamentary Committee to monitor the implementation of the Schengen Agreement, supervise Europol’s activity, and monitor and supervise migration affairs.

Tajani explained that Italy worked to strengthen the ability of the Libyan authorities to intervene and rescue at sea by also benefiting from the European support program.

The Italian Foreign Minister also indicated that they delivered patrol boats and high-level training courses to Libyan counterparts, stressing that negotiating with the Libyan side in this field is difficult.

Tajani pointed out that since 2017, 103 million euros have been allocated to Libya in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
