Japan reopens embassy in Libya after 10-year hiatus

The Japanese Foreign Ministry announced Monday the reopening of its embassy, citing improved security situation in Libya, while keeping the Libya travel warning for its nationals at “Level 4”, urging Japanese nationals to evacuate.

“The embassy, which had been closed since 2014, will focus on coordination with the Libyan government for the time being to operate with the minimum size of personnel.” The Foreign Ministry added.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry indicated that consular services will be provided at a temporary office in Tunisia for Libya’s affairs.
