Libya’s GNA forces retake control of Abu Grein

The commander of Sirte-Jufra Operations Room Ibrahim Baytelmal has confirmed that the forces under the command of the Government of National Accord (GNA) have retaken Abu Grein after Khalifa Haftar’s militias have violated the ceasefire again.

The commander of Sirte-Jufra Operations Room Baytelmal added that clashes were still ongoing outside of Abu Grein, saying they are going to repel Haftar’s militias attack and push them away.

The spokesman for Libya’s Army Mohammed Gununu said Haftar’s treacherous militias had breached the ceasefire once again by desperately trying to advance on Abu Grein, adding that GNA brave forces were still in their positions and repelling Haftar’s militias toward Al-Wishka.

Gununu indicated that the repeated breaches of the ceasefire by the treacherous aggressor make the truce null and void, saying “We didn’t start the war but we’ll set the date and place for its ending.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemned the random shelling on the civilian areas in Souq Al-Jumua and Abu Salim, causing civilian injuries.

UNSMIL also said in a statement it deeply regrets the continued blatant violations of the arms embargo in Libya, even after the commitments made in this regard by concerned countries during the International Conference on Libya in Berlin, held on 19 January 2020.
