Moscow seeks to open the Russian Consulate General in Benghazi

The Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Kinshak, has stated that Russia is coordinating with the Libyan authorities to open the Consulate General in Benghazi.

Kinshak added, in statements to the Russian RIA Novosti agency, that the agreement with the Libyan side to open the consulate has not yet been completed, and it is necessary to work on all practical issues to ensure its work, including logistics and security services.

The Russian diplomat pointed out that this matter is quite difficult in light of the current situation in Libya and the duality of executive authority, stressing that this creates some challenges for existing diplomatic missions in Libya.
