PM: Security Council’s statement on solution in Libya is in line with GNU’s vision

The Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, has welcomed the statement of the Security Council which calls for holding elections in Libya, adding that this call is line with his government’s vision for a political solution and an end to the transitional phase leading to elections that are based on consensual electoral laws.

the Libyan Prime Minister also called on all actors and stakeholders to sit for dialogue to kick-start the period of lasting stability and peace in the country.

Security Council members reaffirmed in a press statement on Tuesday their strong commitment to an inclusive, Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process, facilitated by the United Nations, which would build on the updated electoral laws agreed by the 6+6 Committee, and enable the holding of free, fair, transparent and inclusive national presidential and parliamentary elections across Libya as soon as possible.

The members of the Security Council reiterated their strong support for the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, in particular his mediation and good-offices role to further an inclusive political process, in line with relevant Security Council resolutions, and building on the Libyan Political Agreement and the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) Roadmap, as well as updated electoral laws agreed by the 6+6 Committee.
