The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) announced the start of the preliminary phase before opening the voter register for municipal elections.
The HNEC said in a statement that it will begin the linking phase, which requires citizens wishing to include their names in the municipal election voter register and link their phone numbers to their national numbers so that the system can accept their registration requests in the second phase.
It further explained that it would work to hold elections in 97 municipal councils throughout Libya, noting that registration in the voter registry is completely separate from the general election registry.
The HNEC called on all political, media and social institutions to support its efforts by contributing to spreading awareness of the requirements of the linking process that will qualify citizens for the subsequent stages.
The HNEC called on the government to support the municipal councils’ election process.
