UN envoy calls on international partners to back up Libyan dialogue

The Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, urged Sunday Libya’s regional and international partners to support dialogue between Libyans, as he was in a meeting with French ambassador to Libya, Mostafa Mihraje, and discussed the latest political and security developments in the country.

A statement by UNSMIL added that Bathily and Mihraje reviewed the prospects for reviving the political process that had been impeded by prolongation and stalemate over the last period.

Bathily stressed the importance of the main Libyan parties’ efforts to build on existing agreements to avoid further delay in reaching a political settlement.

He also reiterated the important role that regional and international partners should play in supporting dialogue among Libyans.

UNSMIL said that the meeting between Bathily and the French ambassador also touched on the situation in neighboring countries and the potential impact on Libya.
