Tripoli Court of Appeal “temporarily” suspends the tax on foreign exchange

The Administrative Circuit of the South Tripoli Court of Appeal announced the acceptance of the appeal filed against the Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Resolution No. 15 of 2024 regarding imposing a tax on foreign exchange.

The Court of Appeal explained that it has decided to temporarily suspend the implementation of the contested decree until a ruling is made.

An official source at the Tripoli Court of Appeal told Libya Al-Ahrar that the case will be transferred to “case preparation,” and the prosecution will express its opinion, after which it will be returned to the Administrative Circuit to make the final ruling.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, had issued a decree imposing a fee on the official exchange rate of foreign currencies of 27% for all purposes, with the possibility of reducing the rate during the period of validity of the decree which extends until the end of the current year 2024.
