Africa Intelligence said negotiations for the appointment of a new UN envoy to Libya and Head of UNSMIL to replace Ghassan Salame had almost been finalized.
The French website reported the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as saying that he preferred the current Foreign Minister of Mauritania Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed, pointing out that Egypt, Morocco, and the UAE were behind the removal of Algerian Ramtane Lamamra’s candidacy.
