Al-Mishri expects consensual solution to elections law dispute

The Head of the Libyan High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri said he expects to reach a common ground solution regarding elections laws, reiterating the rejection of the HCS to the violations of the constitutional texts by the House of Representatives (HoR) as it hasn’t consulted with the HCS regarding elections laws.

Al-Mishri told reporters that the HoR issues elections laws in violation of the law and delayed the passing of the 2021 budget for the government in violation of the law as well, adding that the vote of no-confidence in the government is similar to forgery.

The Head of the HCS said any political body emanating from consensus cannot remove an elected body like the HoR, yet the Libyan people and the government can pressure the bodies to reach agreements.

“The HoR and the HCS are both working as two pillars of one building. Yet, the terrible performance of the HoR caused the HCS a lot of troubles, despite the HCS’s commitment to all of its obligations.”
