Libya’s National Oil Corporation declares force majeure on El Feel oil field

The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) has declared force majeure on El Feel oil field after it has been subjected to arbitrary closure attempts due to the entry of a group of individuals and the prevention of users from continuing production.

NOC added in a statement on Sunday that oil production stopped completely, which made the implementation of the NOC’s contractual obligations impossible.

“Accordingly, the NOC is obliged to declare a state of force majeure on Mellitah crude until further notice.” The statement reads.

The NOC said it regrets the current situation and calls for reason and wisdom as well as for keeping the oil sector away from conflicts in order to preserve what is left of the destructed infrastructure that suffered from the consequences of random closures over the past years, as well as the scarcity of budgets in the past years.

On Saturday evening, locals in south Libya announced closing El Feel oilfield until the government of national unity under Debibah hands over power to Bashagha’s government, criticizing the NOC’s sending of the revenues of oil and gas into the accounts of the unity government.
