In the wake of the devastating floods that have recently swept across several areas of Libya’s Green Mountain, including the city of Derna, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stepped forward with a significant aid package. The Ministry has released a detailed report outlining the nature and extent of this aid, demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to providing support in times of crisis.
The report reveals that Qatar has mobilized its resources swiftly and effectively, dispatching multiple aircraft loaded with humanitarian aid to the flood-stricken regions of Libya. This aid comprises a comprehensive range of supplies designed to address both immediate needs and longer-term recovery efforts.
Among the aid sent are essential medical supplies and a fully-equipped field hospital. This will provide much-needed medical support to those affected by the floods, helping to treat injuries and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases that can often follow such disasters.
In addition to medical aid, Qatar has also sent food supplies to provide sustenance for those displaced by the flooding. Recognizing that access to clean water and electricity may be compromised, generators have also been included in the aid package.
The total volume of the aid sent is substantial, estimated to be around 332 tons. This significant contribution has been made possible through a collaborative effort involving several Qatari organizations. The Qatar Development Fund, Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity Association, and the Permanent Committee have all played crucial roles in this endeavor.
Qatar’s ambassador to Libya, Khaled Al-Dosari, had previously affirmed his country’s solidarity with Libya during this challenging time. He stated that Qatar’s response was driven by the spirit of brotherhood between the two nations. This latest aid package serves as a tangible manifestation of that sentiment, providing hope and much-needed support to those affected by the floods.
