An explosion occurred in a gas distribution warehouse in the city of Sabha on Sunday, causing material damage to a mosque and homes nearby.
The Brega Oil and Gas Company confirmed that the complex is not approved by the company and is distributing gas cylinders illegally without taking into account safety and handling procedures. The company also confirmed that there were no deaths in the explosion.
Sabha Medical Center announced that a foreign worker was seriously injured in the explosion. The Center’s spokeswoman, Halima Al-Mahri, stated that the injured person was transferred to a hospital in Tripoli due to the seriousness of his injury.
The incident underscores the issue of gas distribution centers which are not properly licensed and regulated by relevant authorities.
