The German organization SOS Humanity said that the Libyan Coast Guard violated international law while it was carrying out a rescue operation in the Mediterranean.
It explained that a Coast Guard patrol opened fire on its ship, which was carrying out a rescue operation for migrants on board 3 boats.
SOS Humanity indicated that the Coast Guard interrupted the rescue operation and fired live ammunition into the sea, causing a state of panic among the migrants.
According to the organization, the incident led to the death of at least one migrant and forced a number of them to return to Libya, confirming that it rescued 77 migrants during the operation.
SOS Humanity added that the migrants were transferred to the port of Bari, which was designated by the Italian authorities for the disembarkation of migrants.
