Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s support for a Libyan-owned solution to the political situation without any external interference.
During his meeting with the American envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, in Washington, Shukri stressed not to bypass the role of Libyan institutions. Shukri pointed out the need for the settlement to be based on the Skhirat Agreement, which should lead to elections in Libya as soon as possible.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of stopping foreign interventions in Libya, and the withdrawal of all foreign fighters within a specific time frame, in order to ensure the sovereignty and stability of Libya.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Norland appreciated the role played by Cairo and its continuing efforts in Libya. Norland praised the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the United States to find effective ways to deal with the Libyan issue to establish stability throughout the country in a sustainable manner.
