The United Nations (UN) Secretary General, António Guterres, appointed Friday Stephanie Koury of the United States (US) as Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs for Libya in the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
The Head of UNSMIL, Abdoulaye Bathily, welcomed the Secretary-General’s decision to appoint Stephanie Koury as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, saying he was looking forward to working together to advance the political process in Libya.
Koury is succeeding Raisedon Zenenga of Zimbabwe, as she brings to the position more than 30 years of experience supporting political processes, peace talks and mediation in conflict and post-conflict settings, including in the Middle East and over 15 years with the United Nations in Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, the Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
“Most recently, she served as Director of Political Affairs in the United Nations Transition Assistance Mission in the Sudan (UNITAMS).” UNSMIL said in a welcoming statement.
