HCS President receives condolences from world leaders regarding flood victims

The President of the High Council of State (HCS), Mohamed Takala, received a phone call from the Speaker of the Turkish National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmus, offering condolences to the Libyan people for the victims of Storm Daniel that hit cities in eastern Libya and caused significant damage to lives and property.

Takala praised Turkey’s role in providing support teams to rescue victims and search for missing persons. He expressed his hope that Turkey will send more technical support teams due to the magnitude of the catastrophic event and the difficulty of the task for local rescue teams.

For his part, President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, expressed through a letter his deep sadness at what happened to cities in the eastern region due to the floods that caused many deaths, injuries, missing persons, and significant material losses. He expressed his solidarity with Libya in this tragic event and his condolences to the President of the HCS, the Libyan people, and bereaved families. He hoped for a speedy recovery for those injured and mercy for those who passed away.

Moreover, the President of the HCS also received a condolence message from Valentina Matvienko, President of the Federation Council of Russia, expressing sympathy with the families of the victims and solidarity with all Libyans in the environmental disaster that befell the country.

Storm Daniel hit cities in eastern Libya on September 10th, 2023, causing significant death tolls and unprecedented damages. The Libyan authorities and NGOs continue working to rescue victims and search for missing persons.
